Choosing the Perfect Wine Refrigerator

Choosing the perfect wine refrigerator is just a matter of answering a few questions to narrow down your search and then choosing from those that fit your lifestyle. How many bottles of wine would you like to store? Where would you like to put your wine refrigerator? Do you usually drink one type of wine or mix it up? Do you often not finish a bottle of wine after you open it? Answering these questions will help you find the wine fridge to suit you.

You can find wine chillers that cool a single or two bottles and wine fridges that house as little as four bottles. You can also get wine refrigerator columns that can hold as many as 100 bottles of wine and just about every size in between. I would suggest getting a wine fridge that is at least twice the size of your current wine collection. This will allow you to grow your collection over time.

Once you decide that, you need to decide where you want to put your new wine fridge. You can get a countertop wine fridge (smaller models only) like this one from Chambrer,

Countertop Wine Fridges

If a countertop model is not for you, you can get one that is built-in under the counter or one that is a stand alone like this one from Wine Enthusiast.

You want to pay particular attention that if you are getting an under-counter / built-in model that it is made for that. Many of the stand alone models cannot be put in an enclosed space.

If you drink one type of wine, all reds or all whites, a single temperature wine refrigerator will work for for you, but if you enjoy both, you may want to consider a dual zone refrigerator. This will give you two different areas that are at different temperatures to keep your wines at their ideal temp.

Also, if you often don’t finish a full bottle of wine in a single sitting, you may want to get a preservation wine refrigerator. The prservation system allows you to reseal a bottle using argon gas so that you can keep it much longer than if you just put the open bottle in the fridge. This Preservino model is an example.
